Here’s a list of the most popular experiences that you can do at our resort in Wayanad

About Wayanad

Originally said to be called Vayaal Naadu owing to the proliferation of paddy fields in the district, Wayanad is an administrative district in Kerala. Almost all of the land is covered in lush evergreen vegetation that is broken apart by vast tracts of tea and coffee plantations making this a unique habitat for small life. The people of Wayanad are shy but hospitable, something you will witness when staying at our resort in Wayanad

Wayanad relies mainly on tea, coffee and rice as the primary sources of agriculture here. In fact, Wayanad produces up to 90% of the state’s total coffee output. Wayanad and its neighboring region Idukki together contribute up to 80% of the state’s tea output as well.  Throughout your stay in Wayanad, you’ll find winding roads that cut through the forests, tea estates, across river tributaries of the Kabini, and so much more. So what kind of places can you see around our resort in Wayanad

Visit Edakkal Caves

Edakkal is a structure of twin caves just 25km from our resort in Wayanad. This is a special destination because some of the earliest indications of human history can be found here. Neolithic cave paintings and inscriptions dating back to 6000BC have been found at Edakkal which makes it a truly prehistoric and special site. There are also indicators that Edakkal and indeed the entire Wayanad region was once part of the Indus River Valley civilization or at least had some form of contact with the inhabitants all the way up north.

Trek To Meenmutty Falls

Meenmutty, meaning “blocked by fish”, is one of the tallest waterfalls in Kerala. It’s a three-tiered waterfall falling from a height of 984 feet. This beautiful waterfall lies amongst the Meppadi Forest division of South Wayanad. Trekking to Meenmutty is a surreal experience; walking through the forest listening to birdsong before you arrive at the expansive waterfall where you can dip your toes or even go for a full splash! Just be careful about the pesky leeches that line the forest floor (although you will have no such problem in summer).

Meenmutty is located in Makkiyad, around 35km from our resort in Wayanad.

Trek to Chembra Peak And The Heart Shaped Lake

Chembra Mala is one of the tallest peaks of Wayanad and indeed Kerala. Standing tall at an elevation of 6890ft, Chembra is the perfect destination for those that like to get mud in their boots and altitude in their mind! Chembra is also located in Meppadi and only a short distance away from our resort in Wayanad. Once you obtain a trekking permit from the forest department, you can get started on your trek. A pleasant surprise awaits you almost at the top; a heart shaped lake whose waters are said to never dry up. It is best advised to start this trek in the morning to avoid the sun, especially if you are trekking in summer.

Ananthanatha Swami Temple

Just 15km from our resort in Wayanad lies a sanctum that pays homage to Ananthanatha Swamy, a Jain scholar and spiritual teacher of the faith (known as a thirtankara). The temple is the perfect place to enjoy a moment’s silence in lieu of spirituality and wellness.

Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary

Finally, for those inclined to the wilder side of things, the Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary is not very far from our resort in Wayanad. You can avail a safari or even take your own vehicle with a hired guide (either is mandatory!) and drive off into pristine Western ghats territory, where you’ll be greeted by over 300 species of birds and large mammals like spotted deer, gaur, elephants, wild boar, sambhar deer and maybe even a leopard!
